Animate is a sci-fi / thriller short film that was conceived as part of SCI-FI-LONDON’s 48hour Film Challenge. The story begins with two men in a basement, one playing the interrogator and the other the captor. As the story develops we begin to realise that their stories are closely entwined.
The team had 48 hours we had to write, film and produce a science-fiction short film, using a title, piece of dialogue and a prop, all supplied by SCI-FI-LONDON on the opening day / hour of the competition. Our final result was a film which eluded to a dystopian future where themes of cyber / digital terrorism and abduction are strife.
I wrote the short story for the piece in the morning and by midday we were filming. The three man group each took turns to direct a scene, and the project was a great opportunity to push ourselves, both technically and creatively.
